Fáilte Ireland Employer Excellence Exchange
October 1, 2024As the National Tourism Development Authority, Fáilte Ireland is the leading voice in hospitality and tourism for the entire island of Ireland.
Fáilte Ireland Employer Excellence Exchange was designed to bring together figures from across the industry so they could share their challenges, opportunities and brainstorm solutions. Not only to plan for the future workforce needs of the sector but also to raise the bar in terms of quality of employment, opportunities and the breadth of training and development tools and techniques that they’re using for employment, education, training and skill standards across the industry as a whole.
David was honoured to be invited to be the keynote speaker at this Fáilte Ireland Employer Excellence Exchange event in Croke Park, Dublin. With a background in hospitality it is a sector particularly close to his heart and an area of great interest.
In the session David looked at the characteristics of outstanding leaders – the behaviour changes that they have and the things that they do differently. He also looked at how to communicate for success, how to build discretionary effort, how to build a sense of shared direction, community and camaraderie. He also considered how to motivate frontline employees who are often forgotten when it comes to engagement and personal and professional development programs.
David said: “Not a lot of people realise it, but my primary career was in hospitality and tourism. My first degree was in it and I spent many, many years in the hospitality and hotel sector so it’s a real passionate area for me, I love, how engaged and driven the sector is and I love its approach to problem solving so it was a real treat for me to be invited back to work with a whole host of leading entrepreneurs from all across the island of Ireland to think big about the future of the industry.
